English club Gloucestershire apologises to ex-player David Lawrence over racist abuse

Lawrence recounted the incidents in a Sky Sports documentary about the experiences of black cricket players and officials in England and Wales called "You Guys Are History".
The former paceman, 57, said a teammate left a banana skin outside his hotel room during his first away match for Gloucestershire in England's domestic County Championship in 1981.
He also alleged Gloucestershire failed to investigate an incident where he was racially abused by the crowd at an away fixture.The behaviour and attitudes David experienced were as unacceptable then as they are today," Gloucestershire said in a statement.
"The club wishes to apologise unreservedly to David for all the hurt he has experienced, both as a Gloucestershire player and as part of the wider cricketing network."
Gloucestershire said Lawrence met club bosses after the documentary aired this month to discuss the issues it raised.
"The club would also like to apologise to any player or employee who may have experienced similar prejudices during their time at Gloucestershire," the statement added.
Lawrence was born in England to Caribbean parents, he played five Tests and took 18 wickets for England between 1988 and 1992 before a serious knee injury curtailed his international career.
England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Tom Harrison last year said Black Lives Matter protests had forced the game to "confront uncomfortable truths", adding it had "a great deal more to do" to become more inclusive.
English cricket was rocked by racism allegations in September 2020 when Pakistan-born former Yorkshire spinner Azeem Rafiq claimed he was driven to suicidal thoughts by racism and bullying at the club.
A Yorkshire report this month concluded Rafiq was a victim of "inappropriate behaviour" and "racial harassment and bullying" but did not say the county was institutionally racist.

A quick initiation for those who aren’t RPG diehards - respec simply refers to the process of refunding and reallocating things like skill and attribute points that are common to the genre. Respecing in many modern RPGs is a simple, repeatable process, but things aren’t quite so easy in Diablo 2: Resurrected. While you will earn a few easy respec opportunities, once you’ve used them getting another will be a fittingly grindy process. I wanted to share something that I have been working on a lot recently with all of you here, they're what I call Farming Guides. Many of you here may already be familiar with my guides for WoW and may remember how totally useless they were. A shareholder has filed suit, saying Activision misled investors about the severity of its labor problems and associated legal risks. The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating Activision’s disclosures to investors.
The California company has said it is cooperating with various regulators and working to resolve workplace complaints. It has recently "refreshed†its human resources department and hired a new "Chief People Officer†from Disney.
"There is no place anywhere at our company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind, and I am grateful to the employees who bravely shared their experiences," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick in a company statement Monday. He said he was dedicated to making the company an "inclusive, respected, and respectful†workplace.

If you’ve got a big garden, as I do, you may be looking for a solution that can cover the whole garden in one shot instead of individual plants or beds.
Nylon Netting
In my garden, I use nylon bird netting as hail protection. The concept is basically the same as with chicken wire – it doesn’t need to catch all the hail, just slow it down so the stones don’t have their destructive speed when they find your plants. The big difference is the ease of installation. I ran some string overhead across my garden, pulled the netting across it, and secured it with zip ties. It’s practically invisible, lightweight, and you don’t have to fight the kinks in the wire that make working with chicken wire challenging. I was able to install complete coverage over a 24’x45′ garden by myself in about two hours. The netting comes down in winter so it doesn’t get weighed down by snow, but it’s quick and easy to put back up in spring!
