Aluminum silicon carbide (AlSiC) metal matrix composites provide a highly reliable and cost effective thermal management solution for electronic packaging. It offers high thermal conductivity (~200 W/mK) and a tunable low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The low density, high strength and stiffness of AlSiC give it advantages over traditional high-density materials for applications that require weight reduction and need to withstand shock and vibration.

AlSiC can be manufactured in net-shape or near-net-shape at low cost. Examples of net-shape or near-net-shape fabricated AlSiC products are shown in Figure 1. In addition, the AlSiC forming process allows for economical integration with high heat dissipation materials such as diamond and high thermal conductivity graphite, making it ideal for applications requiring high heat dissipation capabilities. Because AlSiC provides the required thermal stability and temperature uniformity requirements. As a unique manufacturing process, AlSiC first produces porous, low-CTE silicon carbide (SiC) particles and then dissolves and infiltrates high-CTE aluminum metal into the mold. The AlSiC manufacturing process is cost effective because both the preform and the infiltrated mold cavity can be designed to match the end product shape. AlSiC materials are primarily used for flip chip lids. AlSiC is an ideal material for this application because its CTE is compatible with dielectric substrates, ceramic ball arrays (BGAs), low temperature sintered ceramic (LTCC) materials, and printed circuit boards, and also has high thermal conductivity values (refer to Table 1 for AlSiC material grades corresponding to specific systems and component types). At the same time, the high strength and stiffness of AlSiC also provide protection for IC devices during the assembly process. The low density of these materials also improves reliability when the device is subjected to shock or vibration. For example, in highly automated assembly machines, where high-speed acceleration and deceleration movements between different step operations can cause inertial shocks and vibrations, utilizing AlSiC products can increase throughput.
AlSiC can be fabricated with complex profiles, thus enabling the manufacture of complex flip-chip packages at low cost. Figure 3 shows an example of a product profile with multiple cavities to accommodate electronics, pillars to provide IC device connections, holes for material fill, and different flange designs. the surface of AlSiC castings also supports different marking methods including laser marking, paint, ink, and screen printing, as well as electroplating, anodizing, and other surface metal treatments suitable for aluminum.
The geometric profile of an optoelectronic package is more complex than that of a flip-chip cover, and therefore requires more precise dimensional control for the optically aligned pattern. Figure 4 is an example of an AlSiC optoelectronic package. All packages in the figure are die-cast, and no additional machining is required for the critical optical alignment part. Therefore the cost is lower compared to conventional packages.
Thermal management in optoelectronic devices is also very important. According to NAMB President Kevin Ezell, Hunt, who is 69, resigned his role as senior vice president for evangelism and leadership Friday, May 13, "effective immediately.”

Ezell called the details of the Guidepost report "egregious and deeply disturbing.”

"Prior to May 13, I was not aware of any alleged misconduct on the part of Johnny Hunt,” Ezell said on Sunday afternoon, May 22. "I learned the details of the report today along with the rest of our Southern Baptist family.”

About an hour and a half after release of the report, Hunt issued a statement via Twitter confirming he had indeed resigned from NAMB but denying the allegations of abuse: "I vigorously deny the circumstances and characterizations set forth in the Guidepost report. I have never abused anybody.”

Prior to assuming the NAMB leadership role in 2018, Hunt served for three decades as pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Ga. He was a frequent guest preacher at churches and events across the nation. At Woodstock, he created a much-celebrated program for "hurting pastors” and their families. That residential program, called City of Refuge, has served pastors who experienced "infidelity, addiction, abuse of power or other moral failings.

The New Z-20
The PAP version of the Z-20 appears remarkably similar to the PLA variant. However, it is painted in olive green and has Chinese characters for "armed police”, a Shanghai-based news website.

Since the Z-20 is supposed to be a 10 ton-class utility helicopter capable of carrying out many functions, it is not unusual to find it in service with the PAP, a Chinese military specialist who requested anonymity told the Global Times.

Earlier, two new models of Z-20 were inducted by PLA for anti-submarine warfare and assault, according to reports.In a photo released by the PLA, a light gray-painted chopper was sighted flying in a coastal zone at the time. Military analysts speculated the Z-20 variant to be a vessel-based anti-submarine warfare chopper.

"The need for hardware-based security features reflects the globalized nature of modern electronics manufacture,” explains Yehia Massoud from KAUST. Electronics companies usually employ large specialized, external foundries to produce their chips, which minimizes costs but introduces potential vulnerabilities to the supply chain. The circuit design could simply be illegally copied by an untrusted foundry for counterfeit chip production or could be maliciously modified by the incorporation of "hardware Trojans” into the circuitry that detrimentally affects its behavior in some way.
To increase confidence in the globalized integrated circuit manufacturing chain, security approaches such as logic locking are now widely used,” says Divyanshu Divyanshu, a Ph.D. student in Massoud’s labs. To defend chip security, the ITL team designed an integrated circuit logic lock based on a component called a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ).

Logic locking works like a combination lock, Divyanshu explains. Unless the correct "key” combination signal is supplied to the lock, the circuit’s operation is scrambled. "The keys to the lock are stored in tamper-proof memory, ensuring hardware security against several threat models,” Divyanshu says.

The logic-locking behavior of the MTJ is based on spintronics, an emerging form of advanced electronics. "Spintronics is a field of study in which a physical property of electrons called spin is exploited, in addition to their charge,” Massoud explains. The MTJ’s electronic output depends on the spin alignment of the electrons within it. Only when the MTJ receives the correct key signal input, however, does it produce the correct output for the protected circuit to function.
Spin-based devices have several advantages compared to conventional silicon components, Massoud notes, including low operational voltage and no power consumption during standby. "With the advancement in fabrication methods, the possibility of using emerging spintronic device structures in the chip design has increased,” he adds. "These properties make spintronic devices a potential choice for exploring hardware security.”

Spintronics could be ideal for the logic-locking task, the team’s work has shown. "Our next steps include the investigation of other spin-based devices to develop logic-locking blocks, with the help of state-of-the-art fabrication facilities available at KAUST,” Massoud says.
