According to Business Insider, Tout-Puissant stole multiple "Isaac" handheld devices from Apple Store employees. These are the iPhone-based devices that allow any retail staff to take payments, instead of requiring buyers to queue at checkouts.

Once in possession of an Issac, Tout-Puissant reportedly sat outside the Apple Store, so that he remained on its staff Wi-Fi network. He then issued thousands of dollars of Apple Gift Cards at a time, and texted them to Ali.Tout-Puissant is said to have done this at many Apple Stores across the US, and then always sent them to Ali, who would be waiting in a different state. Ali would then go into a local Apple Store and buy Apple goods using the gift cards.

The pair, and at least one other unnamed co-conspirator, repeatedly performed this act between 2015 and 2017. It included a total of $50,000 that was taken in 26 digital gift cards, from the Apple Southlake Town Square store in Texas.

Court filings do not describe how Tout-Puissant was so consistently able to steal the Apple Store devices, but he and Ali were charged in 2019.

Ali, who is reportedly ill, agreed to aid prosecutors in their case against Tout-Puissant. The latter insisted on his innocence until May 2021, when he pleaded guilty to the Apple Southlake thefts.

Compared with a highway tire, an all-terrain tire will be equipped with a stronger bead (a ropelike ring that runs around the inner perimeter of the tire, holding it onto the wheel rim), tougher plies (the panels of steel or fabric mesh that lie under the rubber, adding strength and puncture resistance), as well as a rubber tread that’s thicker and designed to better withstand the cutting, tearing, and deformation caused by off-road surfaces. The pattern of that tread will also be designed to grip loose surfaces, while evacuating water, mud, small rocks, and snow as efficiently as possible.

Unfortunately, all those traits do come with some trade-offs. Compared with a highway tire, an all-terrain tire will be heavier and louder and won’t offer quite as much grip on pavement. Bergeson says that more new vehicles don’t come equipped with all-terrain tires for just those reasons. "Most drivers don’t actually use their 4x4s off-road,” he says. "And they still want their trucks to be competitive with other vehicles.”

Consumers who buy rugged SUVs or pickups with the expectation that they’ll drive like a luxury car or a sports car often dictate the tire choices made by car manufacturers. If you bought an SUV or a pickup truck with the expectation that you’ll be able to use it off-road and in winter weather, you’ll need to change those tires.
What’s the Right Size?
Larger tires will more easily roll over larger obstacles off-road. They also look cool. Unfortunately, larger tires will also reduce a vehicle’s effective gear ratio. As I wrote about at length in an article about people ruining their Tacomas, that can utterly destroy a vehicle’s fuel economy, performance, and off-road capability.
So if you’re switching from the 30.5-inch tire that comes standard on a Tacoma to a 34-inch tire, given the Taco’s 3.91 gears, that will give you a new effective ratio of 3.50 to 1. Your performance will decrease by 11 percent.

Again, using the same Taco example, switching from a 30.5-inch tire to a 34-inch one will reduce engine revolutions at 60 miles per hour from 1,500 to 1,345 revolutions per minute. That’s also an 11 percent difference. Take that into the real world and see how your engine and transmission perform at the different RPMs. Just remember that the effects of altering your final drive ratio with larger tires are compound; while your engine will be operating at lower RPMs at a given road speed, it will also have less power.

Wondering how much height a taller tire will add? Fortunately, that calculation is a lot easier. Simply divide the difference in tire diameters by half, and that will give you the increase in height that changing the tires alone will give you. This can be important in determining whether or not your truck will fit in your garage.

What I can’t give you a formula for is how well a larger tire will fit on your vehicle. For instance, mounting 34-by-10.5-inch BF Goodrich K02’s (which actually measure out at 33 inches) to my Ranger required a two-inch suspension lift, chopping off the wheel-crash bars, and using wheels that spaced the tires outboard. And they still rub at full lock in reverse. Every vehicle and every suspension setup will be different, and the skill of your alignment shop plays a role in tire fitment, too.

Companies ordered 9,098 robots in the first quarter, a 19.6% increase over a year ago, according to the Association for Advancing Automation, an industry group based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Tyson Foods, the U.S. meat company, is among those looking to use more robots on its production lines. In 2019, the company opened a 26,000 square foot automation research center near its headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas.

"For the most part, it’s still too soon for some of the really innovative and proprietary systems we’re developing,” said Marty Linn, the center’s director of engineering. Automating jobs such as deboning chickens is extremely difficult, he noted, because the size and shape of each chicken can vary greatly. Robots work best when they can handle uniform items.

With that in mind, Linn said, Tyson has already started installing at its plants robots that sit at the end of production lines and automatically stack and wrap boxes on pallets — a process that involves standard shapes and the repetition of precise movements.

But there is plenty more to watch for, including the lengthy work report evaluating the CCP’s achievements over the last five years. This two-part series outlines 10 specific things to pay attention to once the 20th Party Congress convenes: five relating to the leadership shuffle (see part one), and five dealing with the work report.

The work report is the lengthy presentation by the sitting CCP general secretary outlining the perceived achievements of the past five years, and setting the stage for the CCP’s priorities and polices for the coming five years. As Peter Mattis argued for War on the Rocks, the work report is "the party’s most authoritative statement of its objectives.” That makes it a critically important indications of Beijing’s intentions and goals, but as Mattis pointed out, it is often overlooked by analysts. That’s in part because it is overshadowed by the revelation of personnel changes on the Politburo and Politburo Standing Committee (and in part because it’s very long – last year’s speech ran a whopping three hours and 20 minutes).
One of the biggest questions on the minds of Chinese people is how long the CCP will stick to its "zero-COVID” policy. More and more people are questioning the wisdom of locking down apartment buildings, neighborhoods, and at times entire cities for a handful of cases, given the economic and social toll these draconian measures take. As I’ve written previously, many Chinese are hopeful that once the 20th Party Congress successfully concludes – thereby ending a year of intense political sensitivity – the party will give the go-ahead to a reopening process. But there’s no guarantee that will actually happen.

Xi Jinping’s work report at the 20th Party Congress will contain some major clues on the future of China’s COVID-19 policy. It’s a certainty that Xi will lavishly praise the efforts undertaken so far and China’s low case and death counts compared to other nations. But will he frame the "zero tolerance” approach toward COVID-19 as an ongoing battle or a war that has already been won?

2. How Will the CCP Approach China’s Economy?

China is mired in several overlapping economic crises, from trouble in the real estate sector to insolvent banks, all as the zero-COVID policy continues to drag down its economy. Economists have long warned that China’s growth model was unsustainable; now the bill seems to have come due.

In 2017, Xi’s work report trumpeted a "a constant improvement in the quality and effect of development” and "a steady improvement in the economic structure.” However, he also acknowledged "unbalance and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life” as China’s new "principal contradiction.”

Xi will also claim economic "successes” in 2022, likely leading off with China’s declaration of success in building a "moderately prosperous society” by the CCP’s centennial in 2021. What party leadership chooses to highlight as economic gains over the past five years will be an important indication of how the CCP views China’s economy.

The work report will also help us understanding what to expect in terms of economic priorities for the next five years. In 2017, Xi specifically mentioned "industrialization, IT application, urbanization, and agricultural modernization.” What economic priorities will get the nod this year? And will "common prosperity” make a comeback in the work report or be quietly shelved for being too disruptive amid existing headwinds?

3. Does Xi Further Toughen Language on Taiwan?

Xi noticeably toughened the section on Taiwan in his work report to the 19th Party Congress. "We stand firm in safeguarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will never allow the historical tragedy of national division to repeat itself. Any separatist activity is certain to meet with the resolute opposition of the Chinese people,” he declared. Xi also repeatedly stressed the importance of the "1992 Consensus” for cross-strait relations; at the time Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen had been in office for just over a year and Beijing may have still hoped to persuade her to endorse the nebulous agreement on "one China.”

Since then, Xi’s language toward Taiwan had hardened still further, most notably in a 2019 speech and a white paper on Taiwan released in August of this year. Xi has been asserting more openly that he is unwilling to wait much longer to fulfill the long-held dream of absorbing Taiwan. Will Xi’s 2019 assertion that the cross-strait division cannot "be passed on from generation to generation” – or some other time-bound language – become official CCP doctrine in this year’s work report?
