Marine Corps Systems Command will assess industry’s capability to make a plate that would supplement the Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert, or ESAPI plates, and provide sufficient protection for low intensity threat environments. Vendors should be able to produce a minimum of 40,000 lightweight armor plates within a year of First Article Test approval, which is expected 180 days after contract award.

"Our current ESAPI plates do an amazing job of protecting Marines and have saved many lives,” said Nick Pierce, Individual Armor team lead, Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment at MCSC. "The only problem is Marines are currently given a binary choice between taking on 15 pounds to be protected or zero pounds and very little protection. This new lightweight plate would protect Marines and give commanders the choice of what plate to use based on the specific mission.”

Over the past year, PM ICE conducted an analysis of more than 200 commercial plate designs from 38 different companies to see what type of armor is possible.

MCSC’s Marine Expeditionary Rifle Squad Team tested a selection of the prototype plates through the Marine Corps Load Effects Assessment Program course wearing all of the combat gear. MERS discovered that the lightweight hard armor plate will increase the mobility of Marines by 8 percent.

"Without revealing too much information, I can state unequivocally that the new plates will significantly lighten the load from the Marine, and increase their mobility” said Pierce. "This increased capability can save lives and win battles by enabling Marines to engage the enemy or move to cover and concealment more quickly.”

With a focus on the concepts of modularity and scalability, the team will also ensure the plates will easily slide into the current Plate Carrier and the new PC Gen III, which begins fielding in fiscal 2019. The plates will be purchased in standard sizes as well as three new PC Gen III sizes to confirm Marines of every size and body type can use them.

"The decision to equip Marines with the lightweight plates would be a brilliant way to provide commanders the capability to make their unit more mobile and lethal, while exploiting the weakness of the enemy,” said Capt. Ryan Moore, PM ICE project officer. "If I can make a movement across open terrain to my next piece of cover or micro terrain 8 percent faster, I would argue that this lightened armor helps keep Marines much safer.”

Priorities have not been set yet, but initial fielding would likely go to combat units, Pierce said. Once market research is conducted, the contract could be awarded through full and open competition by the end of fiscal 2019, and fielding could take place as early as fiscal 2020.

7. Draft-Angle

In fact that whole bike feels bigger than it looks, and it puts you in a nice, upright seating position that gives you a tall view of the road ahead of you.

With both front and rear suspension, there’s a lot of moving parts down beneath you that help lift that frame up and give you a bit of height. For shorter riders, keep in mind that the suspension seat post limits just how low the seat can go. I’m 5’7″ and I had no problem with seat height, but shorter riders than me could start to run into issues. Wallke recommends a minimum rider height of 5’4″, for reference.
The star of the show here (and part of what contributes to the extra heft of the Wallke H6) is the pair of batteries. Adding up to 1,680Wh, there’s a ton of battery capacity on this bike.

They humorously rate the bike for 170 miles of range. Except that figure isn’t quite so laughable when you realize that works out to nearly 10 Wh/mile, which is a reasonable consumption level for a fit rider using pedal assist.

Call me crazy, but I’m guessing most people who buy this bike aren’t going to shoehorn into this "fit rider” classification, at least not the type of rider that can pedal an e-bike for 170 miles.

So if you’re rocking throttle-only riding, then expect a range of likely 50-75 miles depending on how fast you go. That’s still a super long range for a throttle-controlled e-bike, and is only possible thanks to that massive amount of battery spread across two large battery packs.

A total of 104 patients with bleeding scalp wounds were randomly allocated into two treatment groups while transporting them to the hospital. Patients in Group I were treated with Axiostat® chitosan haemostatic dressing (n = 47), while a conventional cotton gauze dressing was used in Group II (n = 57). A standard procedure was followed to apply the dressing on bleeding wounds and time to achieve haemostasis, the amount of blood loss, the number of patients with haemostasis, the occurrence of rebleeding, and other side effects were noted.

Moreover, no side effects, such as tissue loss or rebleeding at time of removal, were seen with the use of Axiostat®, while three patients in the cotton gauze group showed some side effects.

Results show that Axiostat® enables rapid haemostasis and can prevent significant blood loss during emergency trauma and accidents. Additionally, it also allows for easier removal from the wound site without leaving any residue, which helps in rendering the wound clean. In conclusion, the study successfully demonstrates the potential of Axiostat® as a first-line intervention in controlling acute haemorrhage in emergency care.

The fingerprint scanner captures an image of the fingerprint and uses complex fingerprint identification algorithms to either convert the image into a unique "map" of minutiae points or analyze the pattern. Minutiae points are local ridge characteristics that occur at either a ridge bifurcation (split) or a ridge ending. This technique reads specific fingerprint 'ridge' characteristics and assigns an x/y coordinate. Only the data containing the location of the points of minutiae is stored in the template, not the actual fingerprint image. This eliminates privacy concerns and helps prevent fraud as a fingerprint cannot be recreated from the stored template.

These cool home gadgets have many benefits, besides home protection. Say you have to get a house sitter for a week. If it isn't someone you want to have a set of keys permanently, all you would have to do is scan their fingerprint in to the memory, and you can give them temporary access to your home. When you get back from vacation you can disable that access like they never had it and you won't have to worry about them making a copy of your keys. If you have children and you want to lock the doors while they are at school, but you don't want to trust them with a key, just scan their prints in to the system and they will never need a key again. They just make it easier for you and your family to get inside your house without making it any easier for criminals to do so.

What to Look For
When looking for a new fingerprint door lock you should look to see if it also has a keypad. If for any reason your fingerprint scanner stops working you will still be able to put the code in without having to carry around your key. You should also look to see how many fingerprints can be stored in the device. Normally they hold more fingerprints than you would ever really need, but it never hurts to check. A typical fingerprint door lock has the ability to hold dozens and in many cases over a hundred. Look at what powers the doorknob and how long it will last. Does it take AA's AAA's or maybe it has a built in battery. Consider the different options and think about what would work best for you.
